Film-maker Waad Al Katib is in Aleppo, to document the suffering of its people caught up in the siege and under regular bombardment.
The video, filmed in July, shows the tragic  moment doctors pulled the lifeless baby out of his mother’s womb. After failing to locate a heartbeat, the doctors attempt resuscitation, and to clear his airways.
After injecting an unknown substance into the umbilical cord, the doctor hangs the baby upside down while vigorously rubbing his back. Suddenly, the baby starts to cry.
“More powerful for a brief moment than Aleppo’s daily cry of death,” says the video’s narrator, journalist Matt Frei.
A smiling doctor tells the camera that the baby just needs oxygen now.
